The influence of key figures on musical culture in the past century is undeniable, and new paradigms have emerged in music production and its reception. Musical preferences and performances, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries, need to be considered in the broader context of societal values and principles. Sociological surveys reveal the social significance of the reception of different kinds of music, and ultimately demonstrate the progression of music in an ever-changing world.
